South Carolina Football’s Most Impressive 2023 Spring Performers:
Offensive Lineman Nick Gargiulo

Nick Gargiulo transferred in from Yale this offseason and has been viewed as a replacement for either guard Jovaughn Gwyn (drafted in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons) or Eric Douglas (signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers). The former Ivy League captain has come in and done just that, despite that expectation being relatively lofty for a player who has never competed at the Power 5 level.

Gargiulo has gotten extensive run with the starting offensive line, splitting his time between guard and center. He seems poised to start at one of the positions, but with Jaylen Nichols’ knee injury likely moving Jakai Moore out to tackle, guard seems most likely. When Gargiulo and Vershon Lee have lined up together with the starting unit, Lee has typically played center while Gargiulo has played guard.
