South Carolina Football’s Most Impressive 2023 Spring Performers:
EDGE Bryan Thomas, Jr.

Bryan Thomas, Jr. was overmatched as a true freshman in 2022 as he was far undersized as a defensive end in the SEC. He didn’t gain much weight this offseason, so expectations for his performance didn’t reach a high level. However, some positive noise surrounding Thomas started to surface as he looked better at spring practice. He had an excellent spring game where he was unblockable at times as a pass rusher, both with his hand down as a defensive end and as a stand-up edge rusher.

Thomas still won’t be a plus run defender at his size, but if he can hold up somewhat against the ground game, his athleticism and natural bend as a pass rusher could mean he is a valuable part of the 2023 Gamecock defense if utilized properly.
