South Carolina Football: Coach Beamer making money for charity
By Kevin Miller
On Tuesday, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer played in the Southern Company Peach Bowl Challenge Golf Tournament. Coach Beamer was partnered with former Boston College and NC State coach Tom O’Brien, and the duo tied for fifth place in the final standings. Coach Beamer earned $12,500 for the Beamer Family Foundation for his efforts, and O’Brien won the same amount for the National Medal of Honor Leadership and Education Center.
The tournament was played at Reynolds Lake Oconee outside of Atlanta, Georgia. The tournament was scored with Stableford Scoring, and it was played with 9 2-man scramble teams. The final standings and the coaches’ charities are listed below:
1st Place: Pat Narduzzi (Pittsburgh Head Coach; UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh), Chan Gailey (Former Georgia Tech Head Coach; Fellowship of Christian Athletes-Georgia Region)
2nd Place: Tie-Dino Babers (Syracuse Head Coach; Dick Tomey Legacy Fund-Positive Coaching Alliance), Rick Neuheisel (Former Colorado, Washington, UCLA Head Coach; Wedgewood Charity) and Dabo Swinney (Clemson Head Coach; All in Team Foundation), Paul Johnson (Former Navy, Georgia Tech Head Coach; Paul and Susan Johnson Family Foundation)
4th Place: Urban Meyer (Former Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, Ohio State Head Coach; Urban and Shelley Meyer Family Foundation), Dan Mullen (Former Mississippi State, Florida Head Coach; Mullen Family 36 Foundation)
5th Place: Tie-Shane Beamer (South Carolina Head Coach; The Beamer Family Foundation), Tom O’Brien (Former Boston College, NC State Head Coach; National Medal of Honor Leadership and Education Center) and Kirby Smart (Georgia Head Coach; The Kirby Smart Family Foundation), Steve Spurrier (Former Duke, Florida, South Carolina Head Coach; HBC Foundation)
7th Place: Tie-Eliah Drinkwitz (Missouri Head Coach; CarePortal), Jim Grobe (Former Ohio, Wake Forest, Baylor Head Coach; Fisher DeBerry Foundation) and Jeff Monken (Army Head Coach; Legacies Alive), Randy Edsall (Former UConn, Maryland Head Coach; Edsall Family Foundation)
9th Place: Mike Norvell (Florida State Head Coach; Keep Climbing Family Foundation), Bobby Johnson (Former Vanderbilt Head Coach; Sea Island Habitat for Humanity)
In a fun bit of irony, Coach Beamer finished tied for fifth with Steve Spurrier’s group. Unfortunately, the head coach from that team in the Upstate finished ahead of both Beamer and Spurrier.
