South Carolina Football: 4-star wide receiver target makes his commitment
By Kevin Miller
The South Carolina football program is in on a bevy of 4-star wide receiver prospects in the 2024 recruiting class. Mazeo Bennett has already committed to the Gamecocks, and with five senior pass catchers leaving the wide receiver room after the 2023 season, head coach Shane Beamer and wide receivers coach Justin Stepp are assuredly working to bring in multiple high school receivers this cycle.
One of the 4-star receivers on the Gamecocks’ radar is Charlotte Christian School’s Micah Gilbert. The 6’3″, 205-pound Gilbert has offers from all over the country and recently named the Gamecocks as one of his seven finalists. The other finalists to land the coveted athlete were Notre Dame, North Carolina, Duke, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, and Michigan.
On Tuesday, Gilbert announced his commitment.
Gilbert was considered a Notre Dame lean for most of his recruitment, and a winter visit to South Bend seemed to secure his commitment for the Irish. He is the third receiver in the class for head coach Marcus Freeman.
Several months ago, 3-star defensive back and Cincinnati, Ohio native Karson Hobbs recommitted from the Gamecocks in order to pledge to the Irish. Hobbs was the first commitment in the class of 2024 for South Carolina.
South Carolina is still in on multiple blue chip high school wide receivers. Texas native Parker Livingstone and Charlotte product Channing Goodwin are 4-star receivers who are heavily interested in the Gamecocks. Kam Mikell (Georgia), Jalyn Crawford (Georgia), Jadan Baugh (Georgia), and Daniel Hill (Mississippi) are 4-star prospects also interested in the Gamecocks who play some wide receiver in high school, but each of these players are likely to play a different position in college. Hill will be a running back, Mikell and Crawford are expected to play in the secondary, and Baugh could be a back or a DB.
