South Carolina football just can’t stop making recruiting news. Within the last two weeks, the Gamecocks have added four new commitments in potential 5-star Josiah Thompson (OT), 4-star Kelvin Hunter (S), 4-star Braydon Lee (CB), and high 3-star Mike Williams (OL). They have also had several other uncommitted players make positive remarks about the Carolina football program or include the Gamecocks in a final group of considered schools.

That continued on Wednesday. Providence Day School wide receiver Channing Goodwin announced his top-7 via his Twitter account, and the Gamecocks were included. Along with South Carolina, Goodwin is considering Michigan, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, NC State, and Virginia.

Goodwin is considered a 3-star recruit by On3, ESPN, and Rivals and a 4-star prospect (and a top-250 player) by 247Sports. The wide receiver is 6’1 and 175 pounds. He is also a very good high school baseball player (CF) but plans to play football only at the next level.

His high school, Providence Day School, has seen a lot of the Gamecocks recently as South Carolina has been in on several prospects in recent years and is considered one of the early favorites to land elite offensive tackle David Sanders who is a rising junior at PDS.

At the receiver position, the Gamecocks have already taken a commitment from 4-star Mazeo Bennett. Goodwin is one of several other 4-star receivers who could end up as Gamecocks this cycle to go with Bennett. Goodwin’s fellow Charlotte native Micah Gilbert, Georgia 4-star prospect Kam Mikell (who could also play defensive back), and 4-star Texan Parker Livingstone are three blue chippers who could end up as pass catchers in Columbia. 4-star athlete Daniel Hill is another major target, but he will likely play running back in college.

With the Gamecocks losing Xavier Legette, Ahamarean Brown, Dakereon Joyner, Eddie Lewis, and probably Juice Wells next offseason at receiver and Trey Knox at tight end, bringing in a lot of talent out wide will be critical for future offenses, and Shane Beamer and company seem primed to make that happen.
