South Carolina Football: Gamecock commitment receives prospect award
By Kevin Miller
Last week, the South Carolina football program added three big commitments from offensive lineman Mike Williams, cornerback Braydon Lee, and safety Kelvin Hunter. The three players brought the Gamecocks back into the top-5 of national team recruiting rankings. However, there has been some news from the “old” recruited players, as well.
Greenville High School wide receiver Mazeo Bennett committed to the Gamecocks in February. Since then, the talented playmaker has been heavily involved in the recruiting process of other players, but he’s also been working on his game.
While attending a camp put on by ESPN and Under Armour in Rock Hill, South Carolina over the weekend, Bennett was named the Wide Receiver MVP for the entire camp.
For those who have not gotten to check out Mazeo Bennett’s film, the kid can play. He has real quickness in space and shows impressive speed as he doesn’t ever seem to get caught from behind. His ball skills look like an SEC receiver’s ball skills, and he has good vision with the ball in his hands that he showed as a kick returner for Greenville High. At 6’0” tall, he doesn’t possess elite size for an outside receiver, but he has the athleticism and “it factor” to play outside anyway. His quickness and sure hands also could lead him to a successful career in the slot.
Fellow South Carolina commitment Kelvin Hunter (4-star, class of 2024 safety from West Florence High School in Florence, South Carolina) was in Rock Hill for the Under Armour camp, and major Gamecock targets KingJoseph Edwards (4-star, class of 2024 EDGE from Mill Creek High School in Hoschton, Georgia) and Micah Gilbert (4-star, class of 2024 wide receiver from Charlotte Christian School in Charlotte, North Carolina) were also in attendance.
