South Carolina Football’s No. 11 Cornerback of All-Time:
Chris Major
A four-year starter, Chris Major (1983-1986) was one of the leaders of the 1984 “Fire Ant” defense, even as a sophomore. Major was undersized but played tough as he was a sure tackler who wasn’t afraid to stick his nose in the fray in the run game. He developed into a good coverage corner, as well, and he eventually set the record for the most passes defended in Gamecock history. Major made an All-South Independent team in 1985 when he logged 71 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 17 pass breakups. He went on to a lengthy CFL career after his Gamecock playing days.
