In a big week of recruiting news after a successful recruiting weekend centered around the annual Garnet and Black Spring Game, the South Carolina football program has been the talk of college football. Beginning with the commitment of Josiah Thompson (4-star OT) on Friday, the Gamecocks added four commitments over five days. Mike Williams (3-star OL), Kelvin Hunter (4-star S), and Braydon Lee (4-star CB) joined Thompson on the commit list on a big Wednesday.

The four commitments certainly made the most noise within Gamecock Nation, but more positive news has come to light since Saturday.

Three 2024 running backs seem to be toward the top of the Gamecocks’ wish list.

Peyton Lewis, a 4-star according to both On3 and 247Sports, called South Carolina his “co-leader” along with Tennessee a few weeks ago. The Salem, Virginia speedster has not talked much about the Gamecocks on social media but is clearly interested as he called the Gamecocks his “co-leader” and has recently set a visit for this summer.

The other two have had positive things to say more recently.

Anthony Carrie, listed as a 4-star prospect by ESPN and Rivals but a 3-star according to both On3 and 247Sports, released a top-6 that included the Gamecocks (along with Michigan State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, North Carolina, and Ole Miss). South Carolina is considered the favorite according to On3’s recruiting prediction machine, but North Carolina and Michigan State are well-liked contenders.

Daniel Hill is a consensus 4-star athlete who projects to play running back in college despite primarily being a receiver in high school. At 220 pounds, Hill is unlikely to play out wide at the next level, but his skill with the ball in his hands makes him a logical candidate to play running back. Hill is from Meridian, Mississippi which is less than two hours from Tuscaloosa, Alabama and the Crimson Tide. Alabama and South Carolina are the current leaders, and Hill had positive things to say about South Carolina football after attending the spring game.

With just one scholarship running back younger than a junior (incoming freshman DJay Braswell), the Gamecocks should be looking at taking two running backs in the 2024 class, and they’re right in the mix on three good ones.
