The South Carolina football team just played its annual Garnet and Black Spring Game three days ago, but it looks like Saturday had a big impact on recruiting. On Tuesday night, Shane Beamer tweeted out a celebratory #WelcomeHome to signify a silent commitment. His tweet added a little context to the #WelcomeHome as he implied that the atmosphere on Saturday seemed to play a role in this particular decision.
Speculation is already running rampant through Gamecock Nation about who the mystery commitment could be.
Could it be Dylan Stewart, the #1-ranked recruit in the 2024 class?! Maybe, but probably not. Stewart’s commitment seems to be one that will take some more time, and he’s got every program in the country vying for his services.
Names such as Micah Gilbert, Nick Brooks, Zavier Hamilton, and Parker Livingstone don’t necessarily make sense either as each one of those talented players recently made public announcements about cutting their lists down.
Beamer’s tweet indicates that the commitment is one from the 2024 class, and quarterback commitment Dante Reno teased out that he knows the commitment is one that makes the 2024 class “bigger.”
Putting the pieces together, big offensive lineman Mike Williams from Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Maryland (the same school that produced current Gamecocks Desmond Umeozulu and Maurice Brown II) makes sense.
Williams tweeted out a teaser for an announcement coming at noon on Wednesday, so the smoke around a possible commitment from the big fella is only getting thicker.
Williams is a consensus 3-star recruit, but he has an impressive offer list that includes big-time programs such as Southern Cal, Michigan State, Miami, Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. At 6’5″ and 310 pounds, Williams plays offensive tackle for his high school team at Charles Herbert Flowers but could flex inside if needed at the collegiate level.
Reno’s tweet also seemed to indicate more commitments could be incoming very soon, so Gamecock Nation better buckle up.
