There has been tons of hype around the South Carolina football team this offseason. It began with the way the Gamecocks finished the 2022 regular season, breaking offensive records en route to knocking both Tennessee and Clemson out of playoff contention in back-to-back weeks. Then, the fan base (after a little time) grew excited over replacing the much-maligned Marcus Satterfield with the high-energy Dowell Loggains at the offensive coordinator position. Then, Spencer Rattler and Juice Wells decided to return to Columbia. Now, spring camp has restarted the hype machine.

In recent days, Rattler’s play has become a topic of conversation. According to a report from Matt Zenitz, a national college football analyst for On3, the senior signal-caller has been turning heads this spring. Zenitz says that reports from inside the program all seem to be on the same page about one thing: Spencer Rattler and Dowell Loggains are a good match.

Loggains’ “system” does not look like many offensive coordinators’ systems. In fact, Loggains believes in adapting the system to fit the team’s personnel. Since coming to South Carolina, Loggains has adjusted what he designs and what he calls to fit what Spencer Rattler does best. According to sources within the program that spoke with Zenitz, that adaptability has been paying off in a major way.

Zenitz’s report included some of the same nuggets that Carolina fans have been hearing this offseason from the coaching staff and from Rattler. The offense is much simpler right now than it ever was under Satterfield, and the players (especially Rattler) are much more comfortable playing under Loggains because of it.

The fact that a national analyst is reporting the same things that have been floating around the program for the last month provides more credibility to the rumblings. Gamecock fans have been burned in the past by internal hype, but Zenitz’s story helps ease some of that worry. The South Carolina faithful can rest assured they aren’t just being fed what they want to hear and that what they have been told actually matches reality.

With Rattler’s top target Juice Wells having a great offseason as well, Gamecock fans have high expectations for their team’s offense this fall. Buckle up, the season is just 144 days away.
