The 2024 recruiting cycle has been kind to the South Carolina football program. All six of the Gamecocks’ public commitments are a 4-star recruit by at least one recruiting service, and four of them are consensus 4 stars. A big (literally) target is making his decision public next week in Josiah Thompson, and the future 5-star is considered a Carolina lean.

Over the weekend, the Gamecocks got some positive news from a city that is loaded with talent in the next couple of cycles. Charlotte, North Carolina is less than 100 miles from Columbia, and 2024 and 2025 is chock full of 4 and 5-star talent. One of these talents is Micah Gilbert.

Gilbert is a 4-star wide receiver who attends Charlotte Christian School. He has expressed serious interest in South Carolina and has made several trips down I-77 to visit campus.

On Saturday, Gilbert trimmed his list of schools he is considering down to seven. According to his Twitter account, Gilbert’s recruitment is now down to South Carolina, Michigan, Notre Dame, Duke, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, and North Carolina.

For the Gamecocks, Greenville High School wide receiver Mazeo Bennett is already committed in the 2024 class, but teams usually take at least two (sometimes up to five) receivers per class. After the 2023 season, Xavier Legette, Ahmarean Brown, Dakereon Joyner, Eddie Lewis, and (probably) Antwane “Juice” Wells will be gone, so taking multiple receivers is a must for Head Coach Shane Beamer and Wide Receivers Coach Justin Stepp.

The Gamecocks are in on several other big-time receivers in the 2024 class, but Gilbert seems to be a priority for the Gamecock class. The 6’2” athlete fits a similar profile as Carolina’s current top target Juice Wells. If both Bennett and Gilbert end up in the class, Gamecock fans can feel good about their receiver room in the future.
