South Carolina Football’s No. 5 Linebacker of All-Time:
Mike Durrah

The late, great Mike Durrah (1980-1983) was arguably the best pursuit tackler in the history of Gamecock football. The rangy linebacker was never bigger than 220 pounds but was seemingly in on every stop during his career. Durrah owns the single-season tackling record (179) and ranks third in Carolina history with just under 400 stops.

Paired with, at different times, JD Fuller and James Seawright, the Gamecock linebackers of the early ’80s were monsters, and Durrah was the leader of the group and was selected as the team’s defensive captain in 1983. His All-South Independent honor as a senior seemed too small an honor for his tremendous season. He was inducted (posthumously) into the South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021.
