South Carolina Gamecocks News: NCAA Tournament, transfer portal, football recruiting, baseball dominance, more
By Kevin Miller
Here is the latest South Carolina Gamecocks News starting with the women’s basketball team continuing their run through the NCAA Tournament.
Dawn Staley’s squad beat a good UCLA squad in convincing fashion. The Gamecock defense smothered the Bruins all game, and the 16-point final margin was closer than the game actually was. Carolina’s 41st win in a row puts them just three wins away from an undefeated season and back-to-back national championships. They will play the Maryland Terrapins in the Elite Eight on Monday for a spot in the Final Four.
The men’s basketball team has not secured a transfer portal commitment as of yet, but they are believed to be in on several solid players.
The Citadel transfer Stephen Clark and Wofford defection BJ Mack are just a couple of these names. Both Clark and Mack are post players who would add some needed size and offensive ability to a Gamecock squad in need of both.
2024 football recruiting continues to look good.
With five blue chip prospects already committed, the Gamecocks could be getting some more good news soon. Elite offensive tackle Josiah Thompson announces his decision in two weeks, and several other 4-star and 5-star players have had good things to say about South Carolina recently.
Spring practice has been non-eventful, in a good way.
The Gamecocks are two weeks into spring practice and no new injuries have surfaced. Dakereon Joyner has gotten some reps with the running backs due to some concerns at the position. No major position changes or personnel issues have come to light, either.
The baseball team is really good, in case you haven’t heard.
After suffering their second loss of the season in a mid-week game against Charlotte, the YardCocks swept a ranked Missouri team at home this weekend with two come-from-behind walk-off wins and a blowout. Ethan Petry was the best hitter for the ‘Cocks over the weekend, and Noah Hall was dominant in his Saturday start once again.
