South Carolina football’s recruiting momentum keeps picking up even more steam. A 2024 class that has
(Kam Pringle, Mazeo Bennett, Dante Reno, Michael Smith, and Wendell Gregory) is expected to get a few more.
Coach Shane Beamer has tweeted out his customary “#WelcomeHome” twice since last weekend
, and
elite offensive tackle Josiah Thompson is announcing his decision on April 11th
. Last weekend, a slew of big-time prospects were on campus and were gushing about the Gamecocks.
One player who was not on campus last weekend was Justin Greene. Greene is a 4-star defensive lineman from Georgia. Greene has the frame to add weight and play inside and the athleticism to be an EDGE player. He is dynamic off the line and will be a very good player at the next level if put in the right situation.
Greene is a consensus 4-star player. He is rated as the 149th overall player by on3 and the 78th best player nationally by 247Sports. Earlier this week, Greene announced his current top-4 schools. South Carolina was among them.
Greene has not publicly announced his plans for official visits, but the Gamecocks seem like a likely destination during visit season this summer or fall.
The Gamecocks have no defensive linemen in the boat for 2024 so far, but they have put themselves in a good position with some studs in the class. Greene, Dylan Stewart, and KingJoseph Edwards are three prominent names considering committing to Coach Beamer and company. Stewart is now the country’s highest-rated prospect according to on3 and is considered a top-20 national player by 247Sports. Edwards is another 4-star Georgia prospect and had lots of positive things to say after being on campus last weekend.
Another 4-star prospect had good things to say about South Carolina. Peyton Lewis, a running back from Salem, Virginia, said that he considers the Gamecocks “top-2” along with the Tennessee Vols. Lewis has set an official visit to the University of South Carolina for the summer. He was recently moved up to the 141st spot in the 247Sports rankings.
The Gamecocks do not have a running back committed in the 2024 class but are in on several, including Lewis.
