After announcing last week that he knew what school he would be attending

, Dillon’s Josiah Thompson has set a date. On April 11th, the priority Gamecock target will be announcing his decision. South Carolina football has been considered the favorite to land the big man. The other five finalists for Thompson’s services are the Clemson Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Miami Hurricanes, Georgia Bulldogs, and Tennessee Volunteers.

Thompson is a high-ceiling prospect. At 6’6″ and about 280 pounds, he has both elite size and athleticism for an offensive tackle. On film, he has shown quick feet that can keep up with athletic EDGE players. His length keeps pass rushers from being able to get their hands on him, and his strong lower half keeps them from being able to move him. He also has a frame that shows he can get bigger and more weight if that’s what is needed to take his game to the next level.

Thompson profiles well as a left tackle. Current Gamecock commitment Kam Pringle seems to fit better at right tackle, so the fit for Thompson on the roster is perfect. Both players are part of the 2024 recruiting class and are considered top-5 players at the position. On3 has Thompson ranked so highly that he may become a 5-star prospect at some point in the process.

The 2023 recruiting class featured several offensive linemen, but two of them were interior linemen (Trovon Baugh, Markee Anderson) and one of the others (Tree Babalade) could be a candidate to move inside. Pringle and Thompson are clear tackles and are the highest-rated of the bunch.

Fellow 2024 offensive lineman Blake Franks is deciding between South Carolina, Clemson, and Auburn. Franks plays some tackle in high school but is probably an interior lineman in college. Franks has not yet set an official date for announcing his college decision.
