Two of the biggest names on the South Carolina Football roster have been making the rounds this offseason. Spencer Rattler and Juice Wells elected to return to South Carolina for a final season before testing the NFL waters, and Gamecock Nation has expressed their gratitude through NIL opportunities and other means of exposure for the team’s biggest offensive weapons.

Over the weekend, a national brand jumped on board the Rattler and Wells train. On their “Bussin’ with the Boys” Podcast, Barstool Sports’ Taylor Lewan and Will Compton released an interview they conducted with Rattler and Wells. Lewan and Compton traveled to Columbia and conducted the interview inside the Long Family Football Operations Facility. On the podcast, the two seniors answered a variety of questions ranging from their high school experiences to the transfer portal to the Gamecocks’ rivalry with Clemson.

The biggest takeaway from the interview was how confident the passing game duo is feeling heading into the season. When asked about predictions for the 2023 season, Wells said the only expectation for his team this fall is to play well. “We’re just going to go out there and ball.” He was also asked about which SEC defensive backs he respected the most. Wells answered simply: “None of them.” The Gamecocks’ top target has no lack of competitive edge to his game, and his fire should have South Carolina fans excited to see what #3 can accomplish this season.

Rattler also expressed confidence in the Gamecocks’ chances of success this season. He told Lewan and Compton that the offensive gameplan from the end of last season made everyone on offense more comfortable and that comfort level was translating to the offseason. QB1 added that “everything clicks” for the offense when they “just cut it loose” and indicated that he believes the late-season success is carrying over to this season.

Both players answered with a simultaneous “For sure” when asked if the Gamecocks should be considered the team to beat in the Palmetto State. If Rattler and Wells have anything to say about it, last year’s rivalry victory over Clemson will be the start of a long run of garnet and black victories in the series.

Each guy credited past adversity for putting them in the situation they are in today as likely NFL draft picks in the 2024 NFL draft. Juice’s long road from high school to prep school to James Madison shaped him to be the grinder he is today, and Rattler’s Oklahoma experience has allowed him to embrace every moment and take some important advice. Former South Carolina quarterback and current offensive analyst Zeb Noland told Rattler to make every throw “with 100% conviction.”

Rattler has been included in some Heisman Trophy odds this offseason, and Wells is looking to build off of an impressive All-SEC campaign from a year ago.

According to the official Twitter account for Compton, an interview with Gamecocks’ Head Coach Shane Beamer will be dropping soon. Lewan and Compton also did a live show from the Tin Roof in Columbia while they were in town. The two indicated they will be returning to Carolina this fall.
