South Carolina Football’s No. 9 Greatest Quarterback of All-Time:
Phil Petty
Phil Petty (1997-2001) was probably the least talented quarterback on this list, and that makes his place on this list that much more remarkable. #14 orchestrated one of the best single-season turnarounds in college football history (at the time, the best ever) when they went from winless in 1999 to 8 wins in 2000.
Hailing from the same high school as Dylan Thompson, Petty was known for his leadership. His “I ain’t hear no bell” moment is legendary in Gamecock Nation. His biggest achievements on the field included an upset of top-10 Georgia, a streak-busting home win over Clemson, and two straight victories over Ohio State in the Outback Bowl.
