South Carolina Basketball: GG Jackson makes postseason list
By Kevin Miller
In what has been a disappointing 2022-2023 basketball season, the South Carolina basketball team was almost completely left off of the postseason award lists. Announced by the SEC office on Monday, just one Gamecock was honored through the coaches’ voting. This was not entirely unexpected as the team finished the regular season at 11-21.
The Ole Miss Rebels, who finished below the Gamecocks in the final SEC standings, were completely left off of the postseason awards list, and the last-place LSU Tigers had one inclusion on the list. The Georgia Bulldogs, who South Carolina basketball just defeated on Senior Day, were the only other team left off completely by the coaches.
For the Gamecocks, star freshman Gregory “GG” Jackson was included on the All-SEC All-Freshman Team. Jackson had an up-and-down freshman campaign relative to expectations, but the talented combo forward still will likely be taken in the top-20 of this summer’s NBA Draft if he elects to turn pro. He averaged over 15 points per game and 6 rebounds but struggled with shooting efficiency (often dictated by shot selection) and his on-ball defense.
Joining Jackson on the All-SEC All-Freshman Team are:
Brandon Miller, Alabama
Jaden Bradley, Alabama
