The biggest 2023 recruiting “flip” for South Carolina football was Florence quarterback LaNorris Sellers who flipped his commitment from Syracuse to the Gamecocks during the Early Signing Period. The Gamecocks’ football staff and the collective fandom within Gamecock Nation were already excited about Sellers’ potential as the quarterback of the future, but according to some reports, Sellers has exceeded even the loftiest expectations that Gamecocks inside or outside the program could have had for him.

247’s Brad Crawford is one of the prominent voices heralding the future reign of Sellers as Gamecock QB1. He has heard that Sellers not only showed up physically ready (this was expected as he enrolled at 6’3″ and 232 pounds) but that he is also close to ready for game action.

Spencer Rattler is the clear starter coming into the 2023 season. The way he finished 2022 should have South Carolina football fans extremely optimistic about what he can do to lead the offense this fall. Everyone’s immediate focus when thinking about the quarterback position should be on Rattler and how he can parlay last year’s finish into this year’s success. However, in the back of every fan’s mind is the future. And in that future, it seems as if the Gamecocks have much to look forward to with the bespectacled #16, Sellers.

For 2023, Luke Doty is the likely backup quarterback, and Dakereon Joyner will see some time at the position, primarily as a wildcat weapon. Players like Doty, Colten Gauthier, Braden Davis, and Tanner Bailey are all former four-star recruits with talented arms, so no one should dismiss them completely from their thoughts on the future.

There sure seems to be something special about Sellers, though.
