Here is the South Carolina Gamecocks News from this weekend, starting with the women’s basketball team’s pursuit of a perfect season.

Dawn Staley’s team won a tight one in Oxford, Mississippi on Sunday. The final score was 64-57 as the Gamecocks owned the overtime period.

South Carolina basketball saw a win on the men’s side of things on Saturday.

The road has been kinder to the Gamecocks this season than the friendly confines of Colonial Life Arena. That trend continued on Saturday as the Gamecocks won their third conference game of the year and the third on the road. The last place LSU Tigers could not defend the CourtCocks from the perimeter as they set their season high for made three-point jumpers. The Gamecocks won 82-73.

The baseball team scored a Founder’s Park record for runs in a series.

The South Carolina baseball team was dominant during its opening weekend. Behind solid pitching and devastating power numbers, the Gamecocks outscored the UMass-Lowell River Hawks 49-5 in three games, shattering their previous three-game series scoring record of 42 runs. The Gamecocks hit 14 home runs over the three-game massacre, ten combined from Gavin Casas, Will McGillis, Cole Messina, and Braylen Wimmer.

The South Carolina softball team has gotten on a roll.

The South Carolina softball squad had an undefeated weekend, taking four games from Delaware, George Washington, Western Kentucky, and Campbell. The hot play extends their winning streak to nine straight wins since their opening loss to the Charlotte 49ers.

Football target Blake Franks Unsure of Commitment Date

South Carolina football has been off to a hot start on the recruiting trail for the 2024 class. Five four-star recruits are in the boat already, and offensive lineman Blake Franks seems close to making his decision. A high school teammate of current Gamecock commitment Mazeo Bennett, Franks seemed to be ready to make his choice public on the 20th but has since said that he is unsure when he will make the final call. He is deciding between South Carolina and Clemson.
