Incoming freshman Nyckoles Harbor is not only a five-star football prospect. He has (realistic) Olympic dreams as a sprinter. He is expected to join the football team this summer and instantly become the fastest runner on the squad.
The current team has its fair share of speedsters, even before Harbor arrives. Xavier Legette returned a kickoff for a touchdown against Texas A&M this past season, and even though he lost his shoe mid-return, no Aggie gained any ground on number 17. Fellow receiver Ahmarean Brown has been considered the fastest current Gamecock and has shown the ability to get behind the defense.
Over the weekend, a new contender entered the fray. Freshman All-American safety Nick Emmanwori took on Brown in a race that appeared to be a 40-yard dash. The Columbia native Emmanwori beat Brown by a half step in the matchup and has officially staked his claim as belonging in the fastest Gamecock conversation.
Once Harbor makes it to campus this summer, a four-man race between Harbor, Brown, Legette, and Emmanwori must take place. Maybe a local Columbia business could put together a joint-NIL deal to make it happen.
