LaNorris Sellers was a more recent addition to South Carolina’s 2023 recruiting class, having revealed his commitment during the Early Signing Period. The Gamecocks did not offer Sellers as an underclassman, which is the common practice in recruiting. However, Sellers’ strong play and continued physical development made ignoring him an impossible task.

One of the biggest “risers” in recruiting rankings during his senior season, Sellers is a dual-threat quarterback with almost unlimited potential. As an athlete, he combines size and strength (220 pounds, 470 pounds squat) with high-level movement ability (4.56 second 40-yard dash, 4.25 second short shuttle) to be a dynamic runner who can run by or through many would-be tacklers. As a passer, Sellers has a strong arm and has hit several 60+ air yard bombs during high school game action. Perhaps most impressive about Sellers’ passing game, though, is his decision making. While amassing over 4000 total yards as a senior, he scored 45 touchdowns and only turned the ball over twice. Sellers’ mobility is not only seen in the run game; in fact, while scrambling, Sellers keeps his eyes downfield, looking to make a play in the passing game. Even while on the run, these throws have impressive zip behind them, and his decision making is still sound.

Physically-speaking, Sellers compares similarly to former Gamecock Stephen Garcia. Both quarterbacks were broad-shouldered athletes who would just as soon run over a linebacker as try to outrun him. As passers, both players owned strong arms and were capable of making off-platform throws. While Garcia had several off-the-field issues that plagued his career, Sellers seems to possess a high level of personal integrity and character that will allow Gamecock fans to rest easy if he is the team’s starting quarterback of the future.

With the return of Spencer Rattler and several long-tenured backup quarterbacks in the program, Sellers will face no pressure to play immediately, and this is the best thing for Sellers and for the Gamecocks. He seems like the perfect candidate for a future ascension up the depth chart due to his developmental profile. Sellers missed almost his entire junior season with an injury to his non-throwing arm but still grew tremendously as a player during his final high school season. He is an intelligent young man (an almost 5.0 GPA) who leads well and helps make his teammates perform above their independent talent levels.

Arguably the best high school quarterback prospect to come out of the state of South Carolina the last decade, Sellers has all the tools—both tangible and intangible—to also become one of the best collegiate quarterbacks to ever step onto the field for the University of South Carolina.
