Shane Beamer and the South Carolina football program continue to clean up on the recruiting trail. Yesterday, former four-star running back Lovasea Carroll announced his decision to transfer from SEC Eastern division rival Georgia in order to join the South Carolina roster.

Now, another high profile recruit is trending to land with the Gamecocks for the upcoming class.

Four-star offensive lineman Zechariah Owens of McDonough, GA recently picked up some ‘crystal ball’ predictions to land in South Carolina’s 2023 recruiting cycle. Owens is a massive human being, standing 6-foot-6 and weighing nearly 350 pounds. Keep in mind that he’s only a junior in high school.

Owens ranks as the nation’s 56th best player, regardless of position according to 24/7 Sports, as well as the fifth best offensive tackle in the nation. He currently holds offers from all of college football’s heavy hitters.

Outside of the Gamecocks, the Peach State native boasts scholarship offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Southern California.

He picked up his South Carolina offer in late October, subsequently making his unofficial visit the following month. So far, the Gamecocks are the only school to receive a ‘crystal ball’ prediction, with both coming this week.

Should South Carolina ultimately land Owens’ commitment, they’d pick up a huge contributor in an area of direct need. The Gamecocks’ line struggled to protect at times last season, leading to uninspired offensive play over the first eight games of the year.

They’ll look to close the deal over the next year as coach Beamer hopes to get his ’23 recruiting class off to a hot start.
