The South Carolina football program is getting a head start on the 2023 recruiting cycle, and it looks to be paying off for head coach Shane Beamer and Co.

The Gamecocks closed out the Early Signing Period for 2022 with the nation’s 22nd-ranked class, according to 24/7 Sports, while also making a huge splash in the transfer portal. The program landed a quarterback for the present, as well as two four-star signal callers to lead the team in the future. It was easily South Carolina’s most decorated quarterback class in program history.

The Gamecocks also pulled in commitments from a number of four-star defenders and a wideout that just caught a touchdown in the high school All-American Game.

Now, attention is turning to next year.

Grayson Howard, a linebacker from the state of Florida, is now trending to the Gamecocks after picking up a ‘Crystal Ball’ prediction to sign with South Carolina next cycle. He’s scheduled to take a visit to Columbia this weekend to check out campus.

Howard is the nation’s 15th-best player at his position and is considered a top 200 player. He’s already pulled in offers from SEC powers Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. He also boasts offers from Florida State, Miami, Michigan State, Nebraska, Texas, and Southern Cal.

The productive defender racked up 157 stops last season as a junior at Andrew Jackson High School. He also logged 14 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and a pair of interceptions.

It’s safe to say it would be a huge recruiting win should the Gamecocks ultimately land Howard’s signature. There’s a ways to go with the ’23 prospect’s recruitment but South Carolina is off to a good start.
