By Jacob Elsey
The South Carolina football team continues to receive good news with most of its stars opting to return for one final season in Columbia. The defense, in particular, has seen key contributors RJ Roderick, Brad Johnson, Zacch Pickens, and Sherrod Greene announce their decisions to come back and play for the Gamecocks in 2022.
Now, another key piece has said he’ll join them for one final go-round before making the jump to the NFL.

Transfer edge rusher Jordan Strachan will be back for a second season with the South Carolina football team next Fall. The veteran defender spent three seasons at Georgia State before making the jump to the SEC.
In his stint with the Panthers, Strachan played in 23 games, tallying 9.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss. He led the nation in sacks as a junior before transferring to join the Gamecocks’ roster.
In his lone season with South Carolina, Strachan totaled 6.0 tackles behind the line of scrimmage while recording 3.0 sacks. He also picked off one pass which he returned for 44 yards to help the Gamecocks take down SEC rival Vanderbilt.
Strachan figures to be a key pass rusher on the 2022 defensive unit while playing the BUCK/DE position. With another strong season, professional scouts could come calling. It took the transfer a bit of time to catch up to the speed of the game in the Southeastern Conference, but his explosiveness is evident.
He’ll team up alongside five-star linemen Zacch Pickens and Jordan Burch to provide South Carolina with one of the league’s top defensive fronts.
