The South Carolina football team lost some depth at the tight end position earlier this offseason when Keveon Mullins announced his intent to transfer. The pass catcher hauled in three receptions for 110 yards last year but was unable to make an impact under the new coaching staff.

With a fall down the depth chart, Mullins opted to look for greener pastures and a quicker route to playing time.

Over the weekend, he let the world know the next stop in his college football journey.

The commitment to Jackson State continues a stellar month of recruiting for head coach Deion Sanders and his staff. Mullins is one of the highest rated transfers to make a pledge to the program under this new leadership, and he should have an opportunity to see the field early and often for the Tigers.

He came to South Carolina as a four-star prospect from the state of Tennessee, being considered the 189th-best player in the nation by Rivals recruiting rankings. Now, he takes that talent to the SWAC as the Tigers look to build on a 10-win season in 2021.

He’ll join a recruiting class that just signed the nation’s No. 1 overall player in Travis Hunter. This, just a season after the program nabbed four-star players Shedeur Sanders and De’Jahn Warren.

Mullins will also join a familiar face at Jackson State next year. Former Gamecock defensive back Shilo Sanders transferred to the program at the conclusion of the 2021 season. Sanders, Deion’s son, picked off four passes for the Tigers last year.

Mullins unfortunately wasn’t able to see the field as much as he’d hoped at South Carolina. Here’s to wishing him success at his new destination.
