Which South Carolina Football Signee Will Make an Instant Impact?

Speaking of instant impacts, there’s a receiver on the board that could see a ton of time early on in a thin South Carolina wideout rotation.

Four-star pass catcher Landon Samson is ranked No. 229 in Rivals’ list of top 250 high school prospects. He committed to the Gamecocks in June and is the most highly rated receiver in the class.

Samson competed in the 2021 season-opening All-American Game earlier this season and put on an absolute show. He hauled in two long scores and totaled more than 125 receiving yards. Check out this impressive 71-yarder below.

Samson hauled in more than 100 receptions over his junior and senior seasons, eclipsing 2,000 yards and notching 28 touchdowns. The rookie-to-be will finish out his high school career with an appearance in the All-American Bowl, which will take place on January 8th, 2022.

Coach Beamer knows that Samson is talented enough to crack the starting lineup. During his press conference on Wednesday, he tabbed the receiver as someone who’s “going to catch about a million balls” over the next three to four seasons.

Samson was a bit of a late riser, earning his four-star status earlier this month. The Gamecocks held off a push from some schools that were closer to home for the Texas native but he ultimately stuck with South Carolina.

The Gamecocks didn’t have a reliable receiving threat on the outside other than Josh Vann last year. Samson could be a player that slides into that slot role early on and provides the offense with a slippery possession pass catcher that constantly moves the chains. Look for him to see playing time in 2022.
