The South Carolina football team went out on a limb last season, taking a chance on a first-year head coach in Shane Beamer. Fast forward one year and the Gamecocks are seeing that move pay off.

The program showed improvements on the field, securing its first bowl invite in three seasons. They pulled upsets over traditional SEC powers Auburn and Florida to do so. The Gamecocks are turning that positive momentum into success on the recruiting trail, an area where Beamer excels.

In the last three days alone, the Gamecocks have secured commitments from two four-star defenders, a four-star transfer at tight end, and the nation’s most highly rated quarterback in the portal. What’s more impressive is that the coaching staff is going out of state to land these talented prospects.

South Carolina went into Maryland to pull Jaishawn Barham from the hometown Terrapins and nearby Penn State. The Gamecocks pulled multi-sport athlete Stone Blanton from Mississippi State despite Bulldogs boasting a national championship baseball program. The two transfer commitments hail from the other side of the country but opted to play for Beamer rather than move closer to home.

We could see a few more additions with the early signing day coming up this week.

Beamer is building something special with this first class at South Carolina. His positivity and fresh outlook are uplifting to a fanbase that was beaten down by the previous staff. He wants to be a Gamecock and his excitement for the program has both players and fans eager to see the future he’s building.

Now, the expectations at South Carolina are rising. A team that won just six games combined in the two seasons prior to the Beamer hire is now in the postseason. Next is a climb up the SEC Eastern division standings. The Gamecocks finished last year at 3-5 in conference. Next year won’t get any easier with Arkansas moving onto the slate alongside annual meetings with Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.

Still, South Carolina has to feel much better at where the program currently stands with Beamer behind the wheel. This is just the beginning. South Carolina football stock is rising, jump on board while there’s still room.
