The South Carolina football team landed a huge commitment from four-star linebacker Jaishawn Barham over the weekend, a player that had been trending towards a Gamecocks commitment late last week. With the pledge, Shane Beamer’s first full class at South Carolina ranks 17th nationally.
Now, it looks like another top defensive prospect could be joining forces with Barham as the Gamecocks look to close out their linebacking class on a high note.
Four-star defender Stone Blanton of Mississippi has received a string of recent ‘Crystal Ball’ predictions at the 24/7 Recruiting site. Blanton is considered a top 400 prospect according to the website and he’s making his college decision today at 11:15 AM.
Blanton was long considered to be a Mississippi State lean, but the hometown Bulldogs have lost a bit of steam in his recruitment. Shane Beamer and Co. have been on the linebacker for some time now, with Blanton making an official visit over the summer.
Blanton would give the Gamecocks their fourth linebacker commitment of the class and would see the current recruiting class move up two spots to No. 15 nationally. It would also help out the baseball program as Blanton has made his intentions known of wanting to play both sports at the collegiate level.
The Gamecocks will close out the majority of this class this week as the early signing period continues to creep closer. Should they continue to keep this momentum rolling on the recruiting trail, South Carolina could wind up landing its first top 15 class since 2012.
