The South Carolina football team picked up a huge transfer commitment with Spencer Rattler’s decision to join the Gamecocks’ roster for the 2022 season. Rattler, a former five-star quarterback at Oklahoma, opted to leave the program following the conclusion of last year.

Whispers started to arise last week of a possible connection to the South Carolina football program. Now, it’s official as he winds up in Columbia with a chance to take over the starting role under center.

Rattler’s connection to South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer was a huge reason for the commitment. Beamer was working for the Sooners during the signal caller’s freshman season. That first year ended with Heisman talks as he helped lead Oklahoma to a 9-2 overall record and Big XII championship. The Sooners averaged 43 points a game and took down Florida 55-20 in the Cotton Bowl to end the year.

South Carolina is hoping for similar results.

As expected, Rattler’s commitment has taken social media by storm. National pundits are taking note of the Gamecocks as the program gets primed for the future.

Rattler instantly becomes the highest rated quarterback to ever sign with the Gamecocks. The program had never signed a five-star prospect at the position with Stephen Garcia being the most highly ranked quarterback previously. Garcia led the Gamecocks to an SEC Championship. Can Rattler do the same?

In two seasons with the Sooners, Rattler racked up 4,595 yards and 40 touchdowns. South Carolina football should be exciting in 2022.

Not only did the Gamecocks score a commitment from Rattler, he’ll bring with him four-star tight end Austin Stogner. Stogner tallied 654 receiving yards and eight scores in his three seasons with Oklahoma. He’ll immediately filter into a role on offense, possibly replacing the production of Nick Muse.

The Gamecocks have been on an absolute tear this week on the recruiting trail. They picked up commitments from a pair of four-star linebackers, with Jaishawn Barham committing on Saturday and Stone Blanton making his pledge earlier this morning.

Shane Beamer and Co. have folks excited about the future of South Carolina football.
