The South Carolina football team just wrapped up its regular season on Saturday but as is the case in college sports these days, there really is no offseason. Recruiting is set to get rolling at full speed with the early signing period getting underway in December. You can bet that Shane Beamer and Co. will be hitting the road as they look to improve the current roster.

While recruiting is typically tied to high school prospects, the transfer era of college football is continuing to grow. Big name players are beginning to jump into the portal and one former top flight quarterback is being tied to coach Beamer and the Gamecocks.

Spencer Rattler has entered the transfer portal after three seasons at Oklahoma. Is there a chance he winds up reuniting with a former coach?

Rattler opened the year as the betting favorite to win the Heisman trophy but found himself on the sidelines for the second half of the year. After a couple of disappointing performances, the Sooners turned to freshman Caleb Williams under center.

Rattler is now looking for a fresh start and he already has a relationship with the current South Carolina head coach. Shane Beamer was previously on staff as an offensive assistant with the Sooners before taking the job in Columbia. He obviously knows the Sooner quarterback quite well.

Bringing Rattler to South Carolina would make a lot of sense for the Gamecocks. The quarterback room is still very much unproven with Luke Doty, Colten Gauthier, and Jason Brown all set to return in 2022. Those three signal callers have combined to throw for 2,120 yards at the Power Five level. Rattler racked up more than 3,000 yards as a redshirt freshman and has 4,595 yards to his name in just over two seasons of work. He also holds a 40:12 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

The Gamecocks need help in the passing game. Maybe Rattler can be a quick answer. It could be a recruitment to follow in the coming months.
