The South Carolina football team experienced its best outing of the season this past weekend in a 40-17 blowout of SEC foe Florida. It was the first game where the Gamecocks put everything together on offense, defense, and special teams.

On offense, the team racked up 459 yards with transfer Jason Brown under center. Brown, who was making his first start at the FBS level, entered the year as the Gamecocks’ third string signal caller. He’s certainly solidified his status as QB1 following his two-touchdown performance.

Brown wasn’t the only one showing out, though. South Carolina had two 100-yard rushers and a 100-yard receiver, marking the first time they’ve accomplished the feat since 2001.

On defense, the Gamecocks stifled Florida’s potent rushing attack and forced the Gators into two turnovers. One of those resulted in a scoop and score by big man Jabari Ellis to close out the first half. It was the team’s fourth defensive score of the year. They’ve also scored once on special teams.

Speaking of the special teams unit, kicker Parker White played a huge role in the win. The senior connected on all four of his field goal attempts to earn SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Punter Kai Kroeger wasn’t asked to do too much, but he was able to pin the Gators inside their own 20-yard line on one of his three punts.

Former South Carolina football players chime in.

In all, it was South Carolina’s most decisive win of the year, and a breathe of fresh air in what’s been an up and down season. Some former players took to Twitter Saturday night to show support of their alma mater during the big win.

The Gamecocks will look to keep the train rolling when they travel to Missouri to face the Tigers. That matchup will kick off at 4 PM on Saturday as the Gamecocks look to win back the Mayor’s Cup Trophy. Missouri won last year’s contest by a score of 17-10.
