South Carolina football: top performers through three games

South Carolina football’s top performers
ST – Parker White
While offense and defense entered the year with question marks, special teams was viewed to be a strength. There’s been no change to that notion as the South Carolina kicking game has been key to its 2-1 start.
Senior kicker Parker White has continued his trek to becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer, needing just 48 more points to overtake Elliot Fry.
White has been successful on all five of his field goals this season, as well as having connected on 100% of his extra point attempts. That includes knocking in the game winner against East Carolina a couple of weeks ago as time expired to give the Gamecocks a 20-17 road victory.
White leads the team in scoring as he’s responsible for 21 points. He’s been key in helping South Carolina land points even when the offense has struggled to punch the ball across the goal line. White is looking to cap his terrific career with his best year yet, and it could buoy into an NFL roster spot.
One thing is for sure, the Gamecocks will need him moving forward if they want to earn a few more wins. South Carolina is winning with defense and special teams right now, and having a successful kicker is key when competing in close, low scoring games.
White has already pulled off some last second heroics three games in. He could have a few more chances later this season, with the first coming in what could be a close game against Kentucky next weekend.
