3 bold predictions for South Carolina football

Another DEF/ST touchdown

South Carolina has found the endzone for a defensive score in each of the first two games. They also nearly took a kick back last weekend against East Carolina. The only way for the Gamecocks to stay in this game is with a tough defensive performance, and a little luck.

Last week seemed like it was going off the rails as the Pirates were driving before half, looking to extend their lead to 21-0. Instead, the defensive line forced quarterback Holton Ahlers into a quick decision, which resulted in a tipped pass that Damani Staley returned for a 63-yard score.

That touchdown gave the Gamecocks life, and got them on the scoreboard. The team used that momentum to start a 20-3 scoring run and leave with a big win on the road. South Carolina may need that same type of momentum shift when playing Georgia, a team that’s yet to allow a touchdown on defense. Points will be hard to come by, especially if the Gamecocks have to turn to reserve quarterback Zeb Noland for a third consecutive start.

South Carolina will need to find production in any way possible, and the defensive and special teams units could play a large part. We say that South Carolina dials up the right play at the right time to find the endzone in a non-traditional way.
