3 sensational stats for South Carolina football.

Another defensive score from Gamecocks.

While the offensive production thus far has left something to be desired, the defense is making an impact on the scoreboard. Not only is the unit playing like one of the SEC’s top bunches in terms of yards allowed, they’ve also been able to put 14 points on the board themselves over the team’s first two games.

This week, it was senior linebacker Damani Staley who found the endzone, returning a touchdown for 63 yards to get the Gamecocks’ first points of the game. It was a huge momentum play that started a 20-3 run to finish off the contest.

This came just a week after defensive end Jordan Burch picked off a pass from Eastern Illinois quarterback Chris Katrenick and took it to the house for a 61-yard score. The Gamecocks didn’t have a defensive score all of last season, and it’s hard to remember the last time the team notched touchdowns on that side of the ball in back to back games.

If South Carolina can find a way to do it for a third straight week, maybe they’ll find themselves in a dog fight in Athens next Saturday.
