Bold predictions for South Carolina football

Multiple QBs play, but not Luke Doty

South Carolina’s quarterback situation is an issue heading into the year. With Doty just getting out of a walking boot last week, it seems unlikely that the team would rush him back, even if he is getting closer to 100%.

Following the news of Doty’s injury, the Gamecocks called upon graduate assistant Zeb Noland to join the roster, and it seems he’s winning over the locker room. Noland previously played quarterback at both Iowa State and North Dakota State, and with an extra year of eligibility remaining, coach Beamer opted to insert the signal caller into the rotation.

Outside of Noland, South Carolina has true freshman Colten Gauthier and transfer Jason Brown in the quarterback room. Both have had highs and lows in offseason action, and they’ll likely get their first taste of SEC football in Columbia this Saturday.

No starter has been announced, but expect all three of these players to see the field in what should be a cake walk for the Gamecocks at home. While Doty isn’t expected to miss a ton of time, the coaching staff will want to prepare for the worst possible scenario. Look for multiple passers to be used in the season opener as South Carolina preps its depth for the upcoming slate.
