If you tuned into a nationally televised high school football game last night, you might’ve gotten a a first look at one future Gamecock, who put on a show under the lights of AT&T Stadium.
South Carolina football commit Landon Samson had himself a day in Southlake Carroll’s season opener Thursday night. The Dragons took on Highland Park in the home of the Dallas Cowboys as a part of ESPN’s High School Football Kickoff event.
Samson helped his team close out a 45-21 shellacking on a national stage, housing two touchdown receptions, one from 71 yards and another from 41 yards. In all, the pass catcher would end the game with five catches for 127 yards and those two scores.
Check out this tremendous catch and run below, which came on the game’s third play to get the scoring started early.

Samson committed to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks over the Summer, becoming part of South Carolina’s current 16-man class. That class ranks as the No. 21 group in all of college football.
The wideout is viewed as a three-star prospect, and earned All-America honors last year as one of the nation’s top performers. Rivals rates Samson as the country’s 92nd-best receiver and the Gamecocks had to beat out the likes of Baylor, Colorado, Nebraska, SMU, and UCF to land the Texas native’s pledge.
As a junior, Samson was named the 6A Player of the Year in his district after notching 74 receptions for 1,293 yards and 15 touchdowns. He seems to be a great player to slide into the slot position and could find an immediate role in next year’s wideout rotation. The receiver group is one of the most unproven positions on the team heading into the season.
Hopefully, Samson can come in and be a reliable target for quarterback Luke Doty in the 2022 season. Until then, we’ll continue to watch performances like this as he looks to close his high school career out with a bang.
