South Carolina football: gameday atmosphere ranked most underrated in SEC
By Jacob Elsey
South Carolina football is gearing up for the 2021 season, with the opening kick being just two weeks away. That September 4th matchup will feature the Gamecocks taking on the Eastern Illinois Panthers in Williams-Brice Stadium.
You can be sure that the fans will pack the seats in Shane Beamer’s first game, as he’s been able to completely change the outlook of the South Carolina program in just eight short months. Fans have shown their support of their new leader by setting an athletic department record for new season ticket sales for the upcoming season.
While Gamecocks fans know what to expect in game one, at least from an atmosphere standpoint, the rest of the SEC may need to be informed. And that’s exactly what SEC Network attempted to do this morning by ranking South Carolina as having the league’s most underrated gameday environment.
South Carolina football tops list in gameday atmosphere
The Gamecocks beat out programs like Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi State in the rankings to land the top spot.
South Carolina is known to have some of the most loyal and dedicated fans in the country. Which other team in the nation can pack the house for every contest during a 21-game losing streak?
Now, coach Shane Beamer isn’t necessarily trying to repeat that feat, but he’ll certainly have the fanbase riled up to come out and support after what’s been a tough couple of seasons. His first chance to see that atmosphere as a head coach will come at 7 PM in just three Saturdays.
If you’re not able to attend and support in person, be sure to catch the game by streaming live on Fubo TV.
