South Carolina football: Antonio Williams sets official visit date

Williams is the top WR on South Carolina football’s board.

Antonio Williams has been a priority target for Shane Beamer and the South Carolina coaching staff all offseason as they look to bolster a wide receiver group that’s unproven at the moment. The top pass catcher in the Palmetto State, Williams plays high school ball right down the road at Dutch Fork in Irmo.

The Gamecocks will have to fend off a few of the country’s top programs in order to land the wideout’s commitment, as he’s received offers from Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Southern Cal, and more. They may have a leg up in the race, though, as the South Carolina native has now set an official visit date with his hometown university.

Williams will be in Williams-Brice Stadium on September 24th when the Gamecocks host Kentucky in the fourth game of the year. It could be a raucous environment should South Carolina get off to a good start early in the 2021 campaign.

The South Carolina visit is one of two that Williams has set in stone. He’ll also be visiting Oxford, MS in October, where the pass catcher will check out the Ole Miss campus for a matchup with the LSU Tigers. He’s already been to see the Rebels once unofficially, and they seem squarely in the mix to land the wideout’s services.

The Gamecocks need help desperately at wide receiver, and they’re hoping to add some talent in the upcoming recruiting class. Shane Beamer already has two pledges at the position in Landon Samson and Kylic Horton. They’re hoping Williams becomes the third this cycle.
