Elite WR adds South Carolina football to top 8.

South Carolina football is in the game with one of the nation’s top wide receiving prospects in the class of 2022. Jayden Gibson, a pass catcher from the state of Florida, recently unveiled his top eight, and the Gamecocks made the cut.

Other programs included in the four-star recruit’s final group are Auburn, Baylor, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, and Tennessee.

Gibson is a Florida legacy, which seemed to give the Gators a slight advantage with his recruitment, but programs like South Carolina, Auburn and Georgia have made a recent push. Justin Stepp is his primary recruiter for the Gamecocks, and he’s hoping to give the pass catcher something to think about.

The top 150 player is rated as the nation’s 16th-best wideout, and he had positives reviews of the South Carolina program following his unofficial visit earlier this week.

"“I love it here, I like it a lot. I see this as a place I could possibly be."

He noted relationships with coach Stepp and head coach Shane Beamer, and enjoyed his time taking a look around campus. The Gamecocks’ coaching staff is trying to convince the 6-foot-4 receiver that he can have an Alshon Jeffery-like impact on the South Carolina offense.

While the Gamecocks are certainly in the running to land the wideout’s services, Gibson has also taken trips to check out Florida, Florida State, and Miami, and he plans to see Auburn, Baylor, Central Florida, and Tennessee in the coming weeks.

The race to land Gibson’s commitment will likely extend out for some time. It will be interesting to follow the recruitment, and see if the Gamecocks can make a late push for the elite talent.
