South Carolina football: Nick James sets commitment date for July 3

Can South Carolina football land this 4-star DL?
Shane Beamer and the South Carolina football program have been picking up a ton of steam on the recruiting trail this offseason. In the month of June, alone, the Gamecocks have landed commitments from six prospects, now giving them a 10-man class. Can South Carolina keep that momentum going?
They’ll surely have an opportunity this week with a number of targets setting commitment dates for this Fourth of July weekend. One of those highly touted prospects is four-star defensive lineman Nick James, who’s deciding between the Gamecocks, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and Florida. He’ll make his final decision on Saturday, July 3rd.
James plays at the coveted IMG Academy in Florida, but he originally hails from the state of Alabama. He is considered a top 250 prospect, and the 16th-best player at his position. The defensive tackle holds offers from all over the country, but he’s narrowed his list to four finalists.
South Carolina could definitely use his services to bolster a defensive line that already possesses two former five-star recruits. The Gamecocks will also be losing Zacch Pickens, Rick Sandidge, Jabari Ellis, Devontae Davis, and Jahkeem Green at tackle over the next two seasons, meaning James could have an opportunity to see the field early and often as an underclassman in the SEC.
A commitment to the Gamecocks would boost their ’22 class into the nation’s top 30, and would get the staff off to a hot start in July following a very successful June. Make sure to follow Garnet and Cocky this week and stay up to date on all things recruiting this holiday weekend.
