South Carolina football lands another commitment.
The Gamecocks have done it again, this time landing a commitment from Texas wide receiver Landon Samson. Samson becomes the eighth player to commit in the month of June, and the 12th man in the ’22 recruiting class.
Samson, a three-star prospect from Southlake, made his pledge public on Wednesday with a social media post. He chose the Gamecocks over offers from Baylor, Central Florida, Colorado, Nebraska, SMU, and Utah. He also took a trip to Ohio State earlier in the month.

Samson was scheduled to visit the South Carolina campus unofficially in July, but he decided to pull the trigger early. An All-American Bowl selection, the pass catcher hauled in 74 receptions for 1,293 yards and 15 scores last season. He was named his district’s 6A offensive player of the year.
Samson credits wide receivers coach Justin Stepp for his pledge. Stepp had been Samson’s main recruiter, and has ties to the Lonestar State dating back to his time on staff at Arkansas and SMU. With Stepp’s blessing, the Gamecocks became Samson’s first SEC offer, and he jumped at the opportunity to play in college football’s best league. He also sees a path to early playing time in a thin South Carolina receiving corps.
With the addition, the Gamecocks’ 2022 recruiting class moves into the nation’s top 20. Coach Beamer continues to stay hot on the recruiting trail, and there could be a few more dominos to fall in the coming days. Stay tuned to Garnet and Cocky for the latest updates in South Carolina recruiting.
