South Carolina football: Nick Emmanwori sets commitment date
By Jacob Elsey
South Carolina football could pick up another DB this week.
South Carolina has been hard at work on the defensive side of the football this offseason, making an obvious effort to fill voids left from the departures of last year’s secondary. So far, Shane Beamer and Co. have reeled in the commitments of four defensive backs in the 2022 recruiting class, and have also pulled in transfers Karon Prunty and Tyrese Ross, both of whom will be eligible to contribute this season.
There could be another addition to the secondary room this week, with instate safety Nick Emmanwori set to commit to his college of choice this Thursday.
Emmanwori has soared up the Gamecocks’ target list following his showings in South Carolina’s offseason camps. A native of Irmo, the defender resides right up the road from the campus.
Emmanwori appears to have the physical form of an SEC safety. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound prospect has great measurables, having been clocked at 4.4 in the 40-yard dash, and recording a 10.8-foot broad jump during his camp sessions. Upon seeing him in person, the Gamecocks’ coaching staff extended an offer, Emmanwori’s first at the Power Five level.
Hopefully, getting in early on the defensive back will pay off. The Gamecocks appear to be the leader in the clubhouse for the local product, who also fields offers from UNC Charlotte, Georgia Southern, and Richmond. Should South Carolina land his services, they’ll be getting a player that tallied 100 tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions last season at Irmo High.
The Gamecocks are in dire need of help in the secondary, and they’re hoping this under-the-radar athlete can offer it. Stay tuned to Garnet and Cocky this week as we break the news on Emmanwori’s upcoming pledge.
