South Carolina football making headway on recruiting trail.

South Carolina football has had a visitor on campus every day of June, and the momentum on the recruiting trail is starting to pick up. The Gamecocks hosted 10 official visitors last weekend, and have a slew of talented high school prospects coming in as the offseason continues. Shane Beamer has done a great job thus far of showing off the program and its new facilities, and he’s receiving a ton of positive press from incoming recruits.

One of those prospects, four-star linebacker Josiah Trotter, has recently unveiled a top four that includes South Carolina, Clemson, Penn State, and Ohio State. Trotter is the son of former Philadelphia Eagle Jeremiah Trotter, and the brother of Jeremiah Trotter, Jr., who plays at Clemson.

Trotter is ranked by Rivals as a top 100 prospect for the class of 2023. The defender is one of the most highly rated players in the state of Pennsylvania, and the Gamecocks had him on campus earlier this week.

South Carolina needs help at linebacker in a bad way. Ernest Jones is gone after leading the team in tackles each of the past two seasons. While Mohamed Kaba, Rosendo Louis, and Sherrod Greene should provide a solid starting rotation, depth is an issue.

Should Trotter ultimately decide to choose the Gamecocks, there would be a quicker route to playing time in comparison to the other programs in his final list. Shane Beamer will work hard over the coming months to land that commitment, though Trotter’s final decision will likely come after the 2021 season, as he’s still just a junior.
