Two South Carolina baseball players earn all-conference honors.

South Carolina baseball’s regular season slate is officially finished, and the Gamecocks can now turn their attention to postseason play. That begins with next week’s SEC Tournament, which will be followed by the NCAA Tournament in June. South Carolina is still trying to position itself to become one of 16 regional hosts for the college baseball playoff format, and the team still has a ton to play for following a 33-win season.

With the regular season wrapping up, the Southeastern Conference has announced its All-SEC selections for the 2021 campaign. Two of those players are on the Gamecocks’ roster, and have been instrumental in the team’s success thus far.

Wes Clarke and Will Sanders both earned all-conference honors following productive seasons. Clarke, the Gamecocks’ designated hitter for the majority of the year, was named second-team All-SEC after bombing a nation-leading 21 home runs. The slugger is hitting .274 on the year, and leads the team with 52 runs batted in.

Sanders, who was named to the all-freshman team, has been a major contributor in both the starting rotation and out of the bullpen for South Carolina this year. The righty is 6-3 on the season, posting a 3.63 ERA and adding a save. Sanders picked up wins in both of the Gamecocks’ victories over Clemson, tossed an eight-inning shutout versus Georgia, and has twice been named as the SEC’s freshman of the week. The rookie has struck out 51 batters in 52 innings of work, and has been extremely efficient, allowing just 11 free passes.
