Which of South Carolina football’s freshmen will make an impact?

The South Carolina football team is officially in its offseason, having wrapped up its first Spring practice session under head coach Shane Beamer. The Spring gave newcomers an opportunity to impress the coaching staff early, as many youngsters look to make major impacts on a roster that’s thin in many areas.

It’s often difficult to transition from high school to college, but that doesn’t make it impossible to see the field. South Carolina got big impacts from the freshman class last season, with players like Luke Doty, Jordan Burch, and Tonka Hemingway making major waves in their first years on campus. Who will be the next group to follow in those footsteps?

We’ve listed our best guesses, projecting the top five impact freshmen on the South Carolina football roster ahead of the 2021 season.

5. Tyshawn Wannamaker

Wannamaker was a member of last year’s freshman class, but he only saw action in one game, leading to a redshirt season. Now, he challenges to be a starter up front along the South Carolina offensive line.

The guard is hoping to slide in and replace NFL bound Sadarius Hutcherson, though it could be a tough task as the offensive line is one of the more experienced position groups on the team. Still, the former four-star recruit caught the attention of the new coaching staff in the Spring, and should be in the mix come Fall.

Wannamaker was rated as a top 300 player by ESPN, and one of the top prospects in the state of South Carolina. Expect to hear his name at some point next season, as he opens up holes for a talented Gamecock backfield.
