DARTH VADER – WILL MUSCHAMP

Is it really a Star Wars comparison without a villain? Former head coach Will Muschamp lands as our Darth Vader to the South Carolina football program, after five seasons at the helm. Muschamp came to Columbia as a new hope, set to turn around a team that won just three games the year prior. Similarly, Darth Vader was the proposed savior for the Jedi Warriors.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned in either situation, which led to both characters joining the Dark Side. In Muschamp’s case, that meant returning to his alma mater, and SEC East foe Georgia. With him, he took quarterback prospect Gunner Stockton, who was poised to become the top rated signal caller to ever sign with the Gamecocks.

His assistants Mike Bobo and Tracy Rocker also fled from Columbia, as did a number of players on the roster, leading to another rebuild at South Carolina. He ended his career at South Carolina with a 28-30 overall record. Let’s just hope that Muschamp and the Bulldogs don’t become South Carolina’s “father” over the coming years.
