What if the South Carolina football team was a Star Wars cast?

It’s May the Fourth, otherwise known as Star Wars Day. With there being a bit of a lull between Spring practice and the start of Fall camp, we thought it would be the perfect time to compare the South Carolina football team to the cast of the iconic movie saga.

The Gamecocks have a ton of new faces, starting with their head coach Shane Beamer. Beamer brings with him a new staff and some much needed transfers, while also trying to build on what the program already has on campus. What will it take to defeat the “Evil Empires” that lie ahead on the schedule?

From Luke Skywalker, to Han Solo, to Darth Vader, we’ve listed the Gamecock equivalents from the 2021 roster.

LUKE SKYWALKER – LUKE DOTY

Skywalker is the hero of the Star Wars series, developing from farmhand to leader of the Rebel Alliance. The Gamecocks are hoping that Doty will have the same impact on the South Carolina football team over the next few years.

A former four-star signal caller, he was thrust into action as a true freshman in SEC play. Much like Skywalker’s journey, there were initial struggles. He threw for 405 yards in two and a half games of action, tossing a couple of touchdowns and a handful of picks along the way. South Carolina will rely on Doty to lead an unfathomable turnaround from SEC obscurity to championship contender. Will he be successful?
