OFFENSE PROVIDES VERSATILITY

The South Carolina offense should look a bit different in 2021, and there are a few playmakers that could line up in a number of spots. We mentioned ZaQuandre White, who could get some looks at both running back and slot receiver. He had a breakout performance in the Spring Game.

White wasn’t the only one moving around, though. Tight end Jaheim Bell lined up at fullback, tailback, and as a pass catcher. He rushed five times on the day, tallying 35 yards and a touchdown. Bell also hauled in a seven-yard catch on the game’s opening drive.

Incoming transfer EJ Jenkins also had a good day, and he’s a player that we could see line up at both wide receiver and tight end. At 6-foot-7, 242 pounds, he’s a mismatch for opposing secondaries. On Sunday, he found the endzone on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Jason Brown, and is a player that fans have been excited for since he announced his intention to join the program last Winter.

Finally, another tight end/wide receiver hybrid, Keveon Mullins, was credited with the game’s longest play, a 27-yard reception late in the action. Mullins was a player that seemed to be coming on last year, earning some playing time versus LSU before going down with an injury. That matchup with the Tigers saw the pass catcher tally a 100-yard game, and he’ll hope to get back to full strength in 2021.

The Gamecocks are in desperate need of playmakers, particularly from their receiving corps. Using these three weapons as potential mismatches could help the offense take a step forward as the new season approaches.
