RUNNING BACKS WILL BE OFFENSIVE STRENGTH

We mentioned the performance of ZaQuandre White, who looked the part of an SEC starter in the Spring Game, rushing for nearly 100 yards and a touchdown on 14 attempts. He averaged more than 6.5 yards per carry in what is hopefully a coming out party for the upperclassman.

White has taken the bulk of carries this offseason as Kevin Harris and MarShawn Lloyd have been nursing injuries, and his coaches have taken note. He’s been praised for his work ethic, attitude, and now, his on-field performance. The former four-star recruit has the potential, and came to South Carolina as the top ranked running back in the junior college ranks. He should find a place in the rotation, that could become one of the SEC’s best in 2021.

"“He’s a playmaker and I don’t know what his issues were here in the past. The kid’s a heck of a football player and the energy that he brings to each and every day to every meeting, every practice, every weight workout, every rep.”"

White’s abilities were on display Sunday, but we also know what returning starter Kevin Harris is capable of. The big bodied back is the SEC’s top returning rusher after a 2020 season that saw him run for more than 1,100 yards and 15 scores. It’s safe to assume that he’ll be a focal point of the offense in 2021, as will five-star freshman MarShawn Lloyd, who missed all of last year with a torn ACL.

This three-headed monster should be the offense’s greatest asset next season, and the coaching staff will work to find touches for each of these talented ball carriers.
